What is Travertine?
Top of the line! Nothing compares to Travertine pavers and coping. In a nutshell, Travertine is natural stone formed by mineral deposits from hot springs. It's uses vary but the most common use is flooring, especially around pools. This product stays cool to the touch, even in direct sunlight and does not create a slick surface when wet. Like marble, it comes in all different colors and is cut to a range of sizes. Travertine.........the ultimate in outdoor flooring.

Travertine pavers install similarly to other types of exterior stones and brick pavers.
Start with compaction using a powered plate compactor, or hand tamper in small areas. Make sure the moisture content of the base material or soil is just right. Soil that is too damp or too dry will not compact properly.
At the edges of your pavered area where there isn't an existing surface to butt up against, be sure to install proper edge restraints. This can range from pre-fabricated flexible plastic edging to creating a "soldier" course using a paver secured by concrete as your edge.
Travertine pavers can be dry set as indicated above and allows for a much simpler installation and easy repairs should they be necessary in the future. Our travertine pavers can also be mud set on top of existing concrete.
Travertine pavers can be cut using the same blades and tools that are used to cut brick pavers or other natural stones. Any diamond blade should suffice, but be certain to wear the appropriate safety gear at all times.
To finish the installation, sand can be swept into the joints once everything is in place, or you can even use grout, or nothing at all. GeoStone recommends the use of polymeric sand for such applications.
A lot of Travertine is imported from Turkey. When removed from the ground, travertine is in huge "blocks" which are taken to a factory and put through very large machines that cut it down to eventually the sizes you see above. This is basically the same process as with marble or granite. Once the travertine pieces are cut, they go through another process that produces their finish.
